Excellence is never an accident: it is a result of high intention, sincere effort and intelligent execution.
But how are you expected to achieve anything close to excellence in a patriarchal system, designed for individual profit and politics, where the pressures of motherhood, parenting, career and business ownership are not considered within the confines of the traditional system.
Danielle Clayton, founder of women's surf company, Salt Gypsy, and newly launched, Salt Maven Consulting, was pondering about that very thing over a few beers one rare mum-night-out at her local pub in Brunswick Heads with a couple of other business-mum mates.
And that my sun-soaked friends is how A Chilly Bin full of Bevvies was dreamed into existence. A beer and lament-induced realisation that if we as women want our lives, businesses and careers to look radically different 10 years from now we need to flip the script and re-write the rules on how to business. The kind of non-networky business focused gathering with interesting, like-minded women we would like to listen to.
We chat to Danny about what Salt Mavens first ever business event will look like, why it is different to your average women’s business event and she drops some wipe out stats that will make you rush off to grab your ticket to this intimate surfside event.
"Did you know only 2% of female founders* make over a million dollars in revenue? Frankly, I think that stat sucks. Not only do I want to be in that 2% but in my lifetime I want to see that percentage significantly increased to at least 50%. Why? I want equality. And because when a woman rises she reinvests back into her Self, her family, her community, her environment. She brings others with her and so the ripples continue.
"We are experiencing a significant point in time to reimagine and redesign how we create profitable lifestyle businesses to suit our new normal: working from home, parenting - often while isolated from extended family support, with environmental & social stewardship built into the DNA of doing business better. With that said, it’s still hard to find and hear from successful female leaders visible in this space that speak our (sub)cultural language. And as Pam Burridge pointed out in the recently released film, Girls Can't Surf, "If you can't see it, you can't be it.""
It is a common phenomenon that light attracts light and with a business journey of ten years bringing everything from good vibes, epic fails, a couple of well-timed opportunites and a shitload of resilience, Danny has gathered around her a glorious mixing pot of multi-talented businesswomen. In a casual, welcoming setting snuggled close to the sea, Danny will interview five key speakers creating not just waves of change but solid sand banks of evolution in their respected industries.
Ultimately this business event will be a relaxed space to meet, mingle & connect with other like-minded women. It will start with a beer o'clock and finish up with fresh inspiration to keep forging forward on your mission to success - whatever that looks like for you.
Over the next few weeks we will be interviewing the events key speakers with quick fire questions so you can catch a glimpse of what our mates (and now yours) will be chatting about come June. Join us.
