I let our good mate, Fi Duncan, of Wahine on Waves, twist my rubber arm and rope me into demo-ing some core pilates moves aimed at helping women rebuild strength & movement post-partum.

As a surfer for over 20 years, with pretty regular yoga practice & training throughout that time, I ended up with a 33+ hour labour resulting in an emergency ceasarean - poor little nugget's head became stuck as it turns out my pelvis is too narrow! As with most - if not all, women, the delivery of my baby and the post-natal period has taken a massive physical toll on my body and after the first couple of months of recovery & healing, I'm now looking to gently - and with focus - start on regaining some core strength in order to get back into the surf feeling confident, stable & flexible.

Fi is a highly experienced pilates instructor, surfer, mum, ex-competitive snowboarder and full legend lady from New Zealand. This woman knows her sh*&! Based in Lennox Head and instructing classes in Byron Bay and Lennox Head studios, Fi is passionate about women's health and remaining active. She is available for private pilates sessions and can be found teaching here and here

What do/did you do for rebuilding your surf fitness post-partum? Love to hear your comments over on our FB page!

~ It goes without saying but always check with your family physician or obstetrician before starting any form of exercise post-partum.
