Get To Know The Chi Chi

With an emphasis on everyday conditions, flat equals flow, so the Chi Chi will slide into waves with ease, and maintain its speed over dead sections with minimal effort.

SIZE OPTIONS: 5'4 | 5'6 | 5'8 | 5'10 | 6'0

The Chi Chi

This board is fast from the second you get to your feet and super easy to turn. Think summer beach breaks or soft point waves where you need a board with enough foam and buoyancy to get you going, but don’t want to restrict how you want to perform on a wave.

Construction

Polyester or PU construction uses traditional materials and laminating techniques to produce a strong, reliable surfboard with high quality finishes. All polyester boards are CNC milled from the shapers files and laminated by hand using quality components such as Hexcel fiberglass, Silmar resin and Bennett foam.

For years traditional polyester boards have been at the forefront of performance surfing. These boards feature a progressive flex pattern controlled by a high-grade timber stringer and feel very reliable under your feet. Polyester construction will perform in all surf conditions and can be adapted to suit a wide variety of surfboard models.

You can find out more about GSI’s surfboard construction on GSI surfboard construction page.

The Chi Chi is designed to satisfy a wide range of abilities and surf conditions, from beach breaks to points and reefs. This board targets women and girls moving down in size from a mid-length or longboard and wanting to really whet their appetite for punchier, bigger surf on a shorter board and really get their wave count up.

Subtle yet effective, the slight concave up front creates lift when taking off, then a double concave starting in the mid zone leads into a shallow rolled vee off the tail. This bottom combination maintains exceptional speed in softer waves, yet provides a nice balance of control versus quick turning response when pivoting right off the tail.

Love love love this new shortboard! A little extra volume helped me with a slight lack in paddle fitness on a recent surf trip in the tropics and helped keep my wave count up. I found it really responsive, fast to generate speed down the line and held rails well when I was trying to lean into my turns. In my peak surf fitness years ago I rode 5'3 toothpicks and for this trip I was on the 5'8 Chi Chi in some fun overhead swell. Am approx 63kgs, 173cm tall, experienced surfer for over 25 years (now a working mum in her 40s with not as much surf time).

I have the 5’10 ChiChi and it was my first sub-6’0 thruster. I’m a longboard and single- fin/twinny midlength girly so I was a bit nervous about how I’d go - but it is so stable and fun I felt confident right away! Been taking it out in waves I wouldn’t normally be as comfortable in but she holds super strong on the takeoff and is sooooo much fun in small punchy waves too. Definitely an epic all-rounder board or for girls like me delving into the shortie world for the first time!

Chi Chi, my new favourite board. I recently purchased the 5”8 chi chi. I needed a new board and after riding the salt gypsy twin fin for years I was hesitant changing to a new style. I needed a board where I could duck dive and a board where I could continue to work on my turns. I’ve been surfing the Chi chi for 3 weeks now. Reef breaks, point breaks and beach breaks. She is the smoothest, zippy board.
